Islanders Play Final Home Games this Weekend against HBU, Senior Day Saturday

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
The final stretch of regular season games begins this weekend as the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program concludes its home schedule against Houston Baptist at Chapman Field.
 
The Islanders (17-25, 7-11 SLC) and the Huskies (19-13, 12-9 SLC) will play a doubleheader Friday with a 1 p.m. first pitch. They'll wrap-up the series Saturday at noon.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi will honor Daisy Gonzalez, Kennedy Jimenez, Katrina Jackson and Skye Koehl in a special Senior Day ceremony.
 
The series could go a long way in determining seeding for the Southland Conference Tournament as the Islanders currently sit in eighth-place with only the top-eight teams qualifying. HBU is two spots ahead in sixth.
 
Freshman Haley Morse has reached base safely in 16 consecutive games. It included a home run at No. 24 Texas A&M. Morse is hitting for a .300 average and a team-high .320 in conference.
 
Junior Tiler Noyola has reached base safely in 12 straight outings. She's hitting for a .311 average on the year and is 19-for-21 in stolen bases.
 
Riding a seven-game hitting streak is sophomore Pal Egan. It comes after she started the year on a 17-game on-base safely streak. Egan is hitting for a .315 average on the season and .319 in conference. She ranks first on the squad in on-base percentage with a .475 mark and is also first with 11 multi-hit games.
 
Leading the team in batting average is sophomore Ashleigh Sgambelluri with a .317 clip. She went on a team-long 11-game hitting streak in the middle of March. Sgambelluri is the only student-athlete to start in all 42 games.
 
In conference games only, sophomore Sammi Thomas has a .319 average, .441 on base percentage and .596 slugging. She's notched 15 hits in 17 games including four doubles, three triples and a homer.
 
The Islanders have mixed and matched their lineups all year and have used 42 different batting orders in 42 contests.
 
In the circle, Lara has been the ace of the staff. She carries an 12-9 record and 2.49 ERA. She has wins this year over UT Arlington, UTSA, Tarleton State, Texas Southern, Sam Houston, Lamar, Incarnate Word and Nicholls.
 
The Huskies have won eight of their last nine conference games with sweeps over Lamar and Incarnate Word, and a series win against Central Arkansas. Heidi Jaquez hast started in all 32 games and carries a .396 average and .491 on-base percentage.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi is 22-14 all-time against HBU. It includes a 13-8 mark at home. The two teams did not play in 2020 due to the shortened COVID-19 season.
