Beach Volleyball Claims Two on Day One of Islander Classic

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball found success at home with a pair of 5-0 sweeps over Stephen F. Austin and Utah on day one of the Conni & Jay Wise Islander Classic Friday at Water's Edge Park.

The Islanders began the day with a dominant 5-0 sweep over SFA in the morning match, as four of the five ended in straight-set victories.

No. 1 Brooke Pertuit and Giuliana Poletti Corrales  defeated their opponents by matching 21-17 scores, while No. 2 Brooke Adkisson and newcomer Jaylyn Porras needed a deciding set to claim the point off of 14-21, 23-21, 15-4 decisions.

From there, the Islanders completed the matches in straight-sets as No. 3 Kylie Kvam and Micaela Mirabal (21-12, 21-17), No. 4 Taylor Horsfall and Emily Ramirez (21-15, 21-16) alongside No. 5 Mary Dodge and Migle Mazurkeviciute (21-17, 21-12) completed the opening sweep.

The Islanders continued their winning ways in the afternoon match, as every pair found the win column yet again for their second sweep of the day.

No. 1 Pertuit and Poletti notched the point behind 21-13, 21-13 scores to get action going before being followed by No. 2 Adkisson and Porras (21-17, 21-12), No. 3 Horsfall and Ramirez (21-14, 21-14), No. 4 Kvam and Mirabal (21-12, 21-9) and No. 5 Dodge and Mazurkeviciute (21-5, 21-5) for the Islanders' fourth sweep of the season.

Islanders resume day two of the Conni & Jay Wise Islander Classic tomorrow (April 3).
