CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coming off one of its best performances of the season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program will bring on Nicholls for a three-game series beginning 1 p.m. Friday at Chapman Field.

On Wednesday, A&M-Corpus Christi (16-22, 6-9 SLC) shutout UTSA 8-0 in a five-inning mercy rule win and scored at least one run in every inning. Sophomore Beatriz Lara threw a complete-game, one-hit shutout and also registered two hits and a walk at the plate, including an RBI triple. The Islanders have won seven of the last eight meetings against UTSA dating back to 2016, including two this year.

Junior Tiler Noyola is riding an eight-game hitting-streak. She has 13 hits in the last eight games and is coming off a multi-hit outing against UTSA. Noyola is second on the team in batting average with a .299 mark.

Freshman Haley Morse has reached base safely in 12 consecutive games, which included a home run at No. 24 Texas A&M. She's hitting for a .317 average in conference.

The team's hitting leader on the season is sophomore Ashleigh Sgambelluri with a .315 clip. Sgambelluri is the only student-athlete to start in all 38 games. She went on a team-long 11-game hitting streak in March.

Sophomore Pal Egan leads the team in on-base percentage with a .452 mark. She started the year by reaching base safely in each of the first 17 games. Egan has recorded a team-high 10 multi-games.

In conference games only, sophomore Sammi Thomas carries a team-high .368 average, .479 on-base percentage and .711 slugging. She's notched 14 hits in 14 games including four doubles, three triples and a homer.

The Islanders have mixed and matched their lineups all year and have used 38 different batting orders in 38 contests.

In the circle, Lara has been the ace of the staff. She carries an 11-7 record and 2.22 ERA. She's 5-4 in conference with a 1.55 ERA.

A&M-Corpus Christi's biggest inning this year has been the fourth where it has outscored the opposition 26-18.

Nicholls (8-20, 1-14) has hit a tough stretch in its scheduled and has dropped seven games in a row. The Colonels have non-conference wins over North Texas, Southern Miss, South Dakota and Eastern Illinois.

Ashlyn Reavis is the team's biggest threat at the plate with a .397 average and .500 on-base percentage. She's started all 28 games. Reavis is hitting .317 in conference.

The Islanders will be going for their first win over Nicholls since 2015 and will try to snap a 10-game skid in the all-time series. The two teams haven't met since 2018. This weekend's series will conclude a seven-game home stand for the Islanders.
