Softball Looks to Get Back on Track in Mid-Week Game against UTSA

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas
– Stepping aside from conference play for a game, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program will host UTSA at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Chapman Field.
 
It will be the second time A&M-Corpus Christi (15-22, 6-9 SLC) and UTSA (11-19, 5-3 CUSA) square off this year. The two teams met at UTSA's host tournament on Feb. 28 where the Islanders won on the road 2-1. Sophomore Beatriz Lara threw a complete-game to pick up the win and struck out seven Roadrunners.
 
Sophomore Ashleigh Sgambelluri leads the team with a .311 average and is the only student-athlete to start in all 37 games. She went on a team-long 11-game hitting streak in March.
 
Sophomore Pal Egan leads the team in on-base percentage with a .443 clip. She has recorded a team-high nine multi-games.
 
Freshman Haley Morse has come on strong as of late and is on an 11-game reached base safely streak. Morse homered in a defeated at No. 24 Texas A&M. She's hitting for a .317 average in conference.
 
Junior Tiler Noyola is riding a seven-game hitting streak. On the season, she's second on the team in batting average with a .291 mark, which includes three doubles, a triple and two homers.
 
The Islanders have mixed and matched their lineups all year and have used 37 different batting orders in 37 contests.
 
In the circle, Lara has been the ace of the staff. She carries a 10-7 record and 2.31 ERA. Lara has wins this year over UT Arlington, UTSA, Tarleton State, Texas Southern, Sam Houston, Lamar and Incarnate Word.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi's biggest inning this year has been the fourth where it has outscored the opposition 24-18.
 
The Roadrunners have been led by Celeste Loughman who hits for a .337 average and .620 slugging with six doubles, four triples and four homers in 30 games. UTSA has used a wide-range of pitchers and seven different student-athletes have started at least two games this year.
 
The Roadrunners are coming off a four-game road sweep at Southern Miss over the weekend.
 
The Islanders have won six of the last seven meetings against UTSA dating back to 2016.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi is in the midst of a seven-game home stand. It will conclude this weekend with a home series against Nicholls.
