Islanders Sweep HBU in TCU Invitational Finale

FORT WORTH, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball completed its run at the TCU Invitational with a 4-1 loss to receiving-votes Tulane before sweeping Houston Baptist 5-0 to cap a successful weekend Saturday at the TCU Sand Volleyball Courts.

Every pair captured a point to deliver the Islanders a 5-0 sweep over Houston Baptist and cap an even 2-2 record over the four-match weekend.

No. 5 Tori Johnson and Demi McInnis put the Islanders on the board with a dominant 21-18, 21-14 win, where they piled on the points in order from No. 4 Micaela Mirabal and Kylie Kvam (21-11, 14-21, 15-10), No. 3 Mary Dodge and Migle Mazurkeviciute (22-20, 21-12), No. 2 Brooke Adkisson and Emily Ramirez (21-13, 21-13) and No. 1 Giuliana Poletti Corrales and Brooke Pertuit (21-14, 17-21, 15-10).
The sweep marked the third win over the Huskies this season.

In the day's opening match, No. 1 Poletti and Pertuit prevailed 22-20, 21-12 to secure the Islanders' lone point in a 4-1 setback to Tulane.

Tulane took the remaining points in straight sets, knocking off No. 2 Adkisson and Ramirez (21-18, 21-15), edging No. 3 Dodge and Mazurkeviciute (21-15, 27-25), defeating No. 4 Kvam and Mirabal (21-18, 21-17) and downing No. 5 McInnis and Johnson (21-19, 21-12).  

Up next, A&M-Corpus Christi heads to the HBU Tournament April 17-18.
