THIBODAUX, La.
– With an opportunity to clinch a berth in the Southland Conference Championships, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program heads to Nicholls for a 3 p.m. Thursday game, followed by a 10 a.m. Saturday contest at Southeastern Louisiana.

A&M-Corpus Christi (4-7-2, 3-4-1 SLC) would clinch a spot in the conference tournament with wins over both Nicholls (0-13, 0-8 SLC) and SLU (3-2-3, 3-2-3 SLC). The program currently sits in a tie for seventh-place and the top-eight make the tournament.

The Islanders are 2-2-1 on the road this year. Their last road game was a 3-0 win over McNeese on Feb. 28.

"It's our first away games in a while so we must make sure it's a business trip against two tricky opponents and come back with two wins," said head coach Craig Shaw.

A&M-Corpus Christi has played a lot of close games. All four of its last league games have been decided by one goal, and three of its four losses in conference have been by one goal.

The freshmen duo of Maggie Murray and Olivia Alvarez have led the offense with a combined seven goals and four assists. Senior Abby Deakin has also been a big contributor up front with three goals, two assists and a team-high 23 shots.

Murray and senior Celia Hilsabeck are the only two Islanders to start in all 13 games. Hilsabeck has logged 996 minutes on the year, which is second on the team only behind freshman Emma Herrera who has anchored the back line in 1014 minutes.

Senior goalkeeper Kyleigh Hall has made 10 consecutive starts in net. She has three shutouts on her resume and has made 68 saves on the year. Hall is coming off a season-high 13 save performance against Texas, which helped keep the game scoreless through 57 minutes.

Nicholls has had to fight through adversity this season and is looking for its first goal. Though, like the Islanders, the Colonials have been right there in a lot of games. A&M-Corpus Christi has won the last two meetings against Nicholls, including a 2-0 decision in 2019.

The Islanders also beat SLU in 2019 by the same 2-0 score. Though, A&M-Corpus Christi has never won in Hammond. This year, the Lady Lions are unbeaten in their last five games, which includes a trio of 0-0 ties as they've been tough to score on. They beat Stephen F. Austin and McNeese by 2-1 scores in their last home weekend.

A&M-Corpus Christi will conclude the regular season on Friday, April 9 when they host Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. at Dugan Stadium.
