Islanders Digital Network | Live Stats

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas
– For just the second time in program history, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer team will host the Texas Longhorns as the two will square off Friday at 7 p.m. at Dugan Stadium.

It will be the first time the Longhorns (5-5, 4-5 Big 12) are coming to town since Sept. 2014 when Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-6-2, 3-4-1 SLC) set a Dugan Stadium attendance record with 1,908 fans.

The Islanders will be going for their first-ever win (or tie) against a school from a Power Five Conference.

"This will be a great experience for the ladies to have a team like Texas, who has national team players, come play us on our home field," said head coach Craig Shaw. "But we are not going to sit back and played scared. We are ready to take them game to them and show what we can do."

A&M-Corpus Christi split a pair of home games last weekend by defeating Stephen F. Austin 2-1 before falling to Sam Houston 1-0 in double overtime. Freshmen Maggie Murray and Olivia Alvarez scored goals against the Ladyjacks.

Murray has scored a team-high four goals on the year, while Alvarez and senior Abby Deakin have netted three apiece. A&M-Corpus Christi has had six different goal scorers this year which also includes freshman Reese Cross and seniors Larissa Fagundes and Celia Hilsabeck.

Murray and Hilsabeck have started all 12 games. Freshman defender Emma Herrera leads the team in minutes played with 924.

Senior goalkeeper Kyleigh Hall has made nine consecutive starts. She concedes less than a goal a game (0.96 GAA) and has recorded three shutouts and 55 saves.

The Longhorns played their primary season in the fall and finished 4-5 in the Big 12. They've played one spring game and registered a 4-0 clean sheet over Texas State on March 5. Senior goalkeeper Savannah Madden has allowed only nine goals in 10 games.

Friday will mark the finale of a program-long seven-game home stand. It will be the only game of the weekend for the Islanders who will have Sunday off from competition.
