CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –
Coming off a three-game sweep over the weekend, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program will open a five-game home stand Wednesday when it hosts Tarleton State for a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m. at Chapman Field.

A&M-Corpus Christi (12-11, 5-1 SLC) swept Lamar after three consecutive shutouts 6-0, 11-0 and 6-0. It was the first time in program history that the Islanders posted a clean sheet over an entire SLC series. The Islanders haven't notched four straight shutouts since 2011 and have never had five consecutive shutouts.

The 23 runs against Lamar were the most the Islanders scored in a series since 2011 when they swept Southeastern Louisiana 16-0, 11-3 and 6-1.

A&M-Corpus Christi had three hitters bat above a .500 average over the three games. Sophomore Sammi Thomas led the way for a .636 average and 1.273 slugging after going 7-for-11 with two doubles, a triple and a homer with seven runs scored. Sophomore Ashleigh Sgambelluri notched a .600 average and .800 slugging, while freshman Haley Morse etched a .545 average.

Thomas leads the team in nearly every statistical category at the plate. She's hitting for a .333 average and .681 slugging with 22 RBIs, 20 runs, seven doubles, three triples and four homers. Thomas is six-for-six in stolen bases and carries a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 25 putouts. In conference, she's hitting for a .611 average and 1.333 slugging.

Sgambelluri is on a four-game hitting streak and eight-game reached base safely streak. She's tied with Thomas for a team-high .333 batting average, including a .421 mark in conference.

In the circle, sophomore Beatriz Lara is 8-2 on the season and 4-0 in conference. She threw 12.1 scoreless innings against the Cardinals with seven strikeouts and just one walk. Lara limited Lamar to a .136 average. On the season, Lara has wins this year over UT Arlington, UTSA, Tarleton State, Texas Southern, Sam Houston and Lamar. She carries a 2.13 ERA in 69.0 innings, including a 0.53 ERA in 26.1 innings in conference.

A&M-Corpus Christi and Tarleton State (11-17, 0-0 WAC) will meet for the second time this year after the Islanders won 13-3 in five innings at the Scrap Yard Blizzard Challenge on Feb. 20 in Conroe, Texas. A&M-Corpus Christi trailed 2-0 when it erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning and five more in the fifth. Thomas went 2-for-4 with a homer and double, and Lara earned the win after allowing just one earned run in 5.0 innings.

It was the first-ever meeting between the two programs.

The Texans went 2-2 this past weekend at the Jeannine McHaney Memorial Classic, hosted by Texas Tech. Tarleton beat UTEP 6-4 and Texas Tech 11-9 before dropping a pair to the Red Raiders.

With a sweep over Tarleton, A&M-Corpus Christi would win five in a row for the first time since 2015. It hasn't won six in a row since 2011 when it set a school record with 13 consecutive victories.
