Islanders Down Southern Mississippi in Split at LSU Beach Invitational

BATON ROUGE, La. – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball broke a five-match skid with a 4-1 victory over Southern Mississippi to highlight the Islanders' day-one effort that also included a 5-0 morning loss to No. 3 LSU Saturday at the LSU Beach Invitational.

Four Islander pairs came away victorious, as No. 2 Kylie Kvam and Micaela Mirabal were the lone duo to advance to a deciding set but gained the point on a 19-21, 21-11, 15-12 outcome. The remaining three pairs finished off the Golden Eagles in straight sets, with dominant wins going to No. 3 Emily Ramirez and Taylor Horsfall (21-12, 21-12) and No. 4 Mary Dodge and Migle Mazurkeviciute (21-13, 21-14) while a closer 21-18, 21-16 decision went to No. 5 Tori Johnson and Demi McInnis.

In the morning match against host No. 3 LSU, the Islanders battled but ultimately fell 5-0 to the Tigers on their home court.

LSU took down all five Islander pairings in straight sets, defeating No. 1 Poletti and Pertuit 21-9, 21-15, besting No. 2 Kvam and Mirabal 21-15, 25-23, edging No. 3 Ramirez and Horsfall 21-16, 21-18, knocking off No. 4 Dodge and Mazurkeviciute 21-11, 21-14 and completing the sweep with a 21-15, 21-17 decision over No. 5 Johnson and McInnis.

The Islanders face No. 16 South Carolina tomorrow (March 21) at 9:30 a.m. in its final appearance at the LSU Beach Invitational.
