Beach Volleyball Drops Pair at NOLA Classic

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball fell to a pair of nationally-ranked opponents to open the five-match weekend, as No. 17 Georgia State defeated the Islanders 4-1 in the morning match before No. 20 Tulane swept in a 5-0 final Friday at the White Sands Volleyball Courts.

Taylor Horsfall and Emily Ramirez highlighted the Islanders' first outing, claiming the 22-20, 21-17 victory on the third court and putting them on the board against the No. 17 Panthers. No. 1 Giuliana Poletti Corrales and Brooke Pertuit (21-19, 15-21, 15-13) alongside No. 2 Brooke Adkisson and Kylie Kvam (21-17, 20-22, 15-10) each took Georgia State to a deciding set but both points fell in the Panthers' favor.

Rounding out the morning's efforts, No. 4 Migle Mazurkeviciute and Mary Dodge dropped a tight 21-19, 23-21 outcome while Demi McInnis and Aurora Carnes were bested 21-11, 21-13.
Moving to the afternoon match against host No. 20 Tulane, the Islanders battled but ultimately fell 5-0 to the Green Wave on their home court.

No. 4 Dodge and Mazurkeviciuate engineered another solid performance but found the wrong side of a see-saw 22-20, 18-21, 15-9 decision. The Green Wave overpowered the Islanders, handing No. 1 Corrales and Pertuit (21-17, 21-17), No. 2 Adkisson and Kvam (21-15, 21-11), No. 3 Horsfall and Ramirez (21-18, 21-15) and No. 5 McInnis and Tori Johnson (21-14, 21-14) straight-set losses.

The Islanders look to rebound at the LSU Beach Invitational tomorrow (March 20) starting at 1 p.m.
