NOLA Classic Stream
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball prepares for a busy weekend with appearances at the NOLA Classic and LSU Beach Invitational on tap for Friday, March 19 – Sunday, March 21.
The road trip begins with a two-match Friday at the NOLA Classic, seeing the Islanders face No. 17 Georgia State at 10:15 a.m. before challenging host No. 20 Tulane in a 1:45 p.m. matinee. Another two-match day awaits the Islanders on Saturday, this time at the LSU Beach Invitational with a 1 p.m. pairing against No. 3 LSU and concluding at 5 p.m. against Southern Mississippi. The Islanders finish the road stretch on Sunday against No. 16 South Carolina set for a 9:30 a.m. first serve.
Notes
- A&M-Corpus Christi dropped a tough 3-2 midweek battle against Kingsville and enters the five-match weekend with a 5-5 overall record.
- Over the two-tournament weekend, the Islanders are set to face four nationally-ranked opponents - No. 3 LSU, No. 16 South Carolina, No. 17 Georgia State and No. 20 Tulane.
- The Islanders picked up their second-straight Southland weekly honor, this time seeing Mary Dodge and Micaela Mirabal named Pair of the Week after a 3-2 weekend with wins against Boise State, SFA, and No. 20 Arizona State at the Cactus Classic.
- The Islanders went 3-1 during opening weekend, with all victory finishes ending in a 3-2 final score and the lone loss coming against No. 1 LSU.
- Powerhouse pair Brooke Adkisson and Kylie Kvam earned the first Southland Pair of the Week award after going 2-2 over the four-match weekend as the Islanders start the season at a 3-1 mark, acting as the deciding point with a 21-12, 22-20 win to claim the 3-2 opener against UL-Monroe. Adkisson and Kvam returned to the sand the following day with a commanding 21-9, 21-13 rout over host HBU to clinch their second decision of the weekend.
- In addition to a strong returning class, the Islanders welcome Division I grad transfers Mary Dodge (Wisconsin), Micaela Mirabal (Grand Canyon), and Emily Ramirez (UTSA) to the roster.
- Coach Gayle Stammer enters her fifth season at the helm of the Islander program.
