SAN ANTONIO –
The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program will play its first road game of the season Sunday when it travels to UTSA for a 1 p.m. kickoff at the Park West Athletics Complex.

The Islanders (0-1) are coming off a hard-fought 2-1 defeat in overtime to UTRGV on Wednesday to open the season. Playing without six student-athletes, A&M-Corpus Christi came back to tie the game 1-1 in the second half, but just fell short in the very end.

The goal came from freshman Maggie Murray in the 55th minute, assisted by senior Larissa Fagundes. A&M-Corpus Christi played without Preseason All-Conference selections Kyleigh Hall and Abby Deakin.

"I am excited to see how we respond after an undeserving loss, and especially testing ourselves against a top Conference USA opponent," said head coach Craig Shaw.

The Islanders are coming off their best soccer season in program history. They set program records in both wins (9) and conference wins (6). Additionally, they advanced to the semifinals of the Southland Conference Tournament for the first time ever.

UTSA (0-0) has not played a game this spring due to a pair of cancellations among their opponent's programs. The Roadrunners finished 8-8-1 in 2019.

The Islanders are 2-2 all-time against the Roadrunners and 1-1 on the road. A&M-Corpus Christi won the last meeting 2-1 on Sept. 8, 2017 at home.

Sunday will be the start of a three-game road trip for A&M-Corpus Christi, which will play its next home game on Friday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. against Northwestern State.
