Beach Volleyball Pulls Through with Pair of 3-2 Wins at HBU Tournament

HOUSTON – A strong weekend at the HBU Tournament was capped by a pair of 3-2 wins for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball program over the host Houston Baptist and UL-Monroe on Saturday.
 
The team of freshman Tori Johnson and sophomore Migle Mazurkeviciute posted a 2-0 day at the No. 5 spot. Both wins were in straight sets.
 
In the first match against HBU, the score was tied 1-1 after No. 4 and 5 completed. The Islanders garnered a 21-9, 21-13 from sophomore Brooke Adkisson and junior Kylie Kvam at No. 3. It ultimately came down to the No. 2 position where freshman Giuliana Corrales and freshman Brooke Pertuit battled for a three-set win, including 15-13 in the third.
 
In the second match versus UL-Monroe, A&M-Corpus Christi led 2-0 after Johnson and Mazurkeviciute won at No. 5, and the No. 4 team of senior Emily Ramirez and junior Demi McInnis grinded out a tight three-setter 16-14 in the third.
 
The clinching match came at No. 2 where seniors Mary Dodge and Taylor Horsfall came out on top 21-13, 21-16.
 
The Islanders will return to the court next weekend when they travel to the state of Arizona for a set of matches. It will begin with a Friday contest at Grand Canyon.
