BEAUMONT, Texas – Playing its first game in 13 days, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi soccer program will travel for its conference opener at Lamar at 7 p.m. Friday, followed by a 1 p.m. Sunday contest at McNeese.

The Islanders (1-2-1, 0-0 SLC) were originally scheduled to host two games last weekend against Northwestern State and Central Arkansas, but those games were postponed due to extreme weather and challenges with travel. It came after their initial conference opener at Abilene Christian was postponed due to COVID-19 protocols with ACU's program.

"Having had our first three conference games postponed, the ladies are just beyond excited to play. What a better first game than an away game at the reigning champions," said head coach Craig Shaw.

A&M-Corpus Christi's last game was on Feb. 13 when it shutout Texas A&M-International 4-0 on the road. It marked the second straight shutout after a 0-0 tie against UTRGV in the South Texas Showdown.

The Islanders have gone 224 minutes without conceding a goal. Sophomore Alana Mangan has played a team-high 341 minutes to anchor the back line.

Offensively, freshmen Maggie Murray and Olivia Alvarez lead the way with two goals apiece. Senior Abby Deakin also has a goal on her resume against TAMIU.

Lamar (1-1, 0-1 SLC) has only played one game this spring and fell to Southeastern Louisiana 3-2 in double overtime. The Cardinals defeated Texas State 1-0 in the fall, which counted toward their record. Lamar won the league in 2019 with a 10-1 SLC record and swept through the conference tournament.

McNeese (1-1, 1-0 SLC) opened league play with a 2-0 win over Nicholls. The Cowgirls dropped their season opener at Rice 2-1. The Islanders won the last meeting between the two teams 1-0 in 2019 – a season where McNeese finished 11-9 overall and 6-5 SLC.
