HOUSTON – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi beach volleyball commences the 2021 season with a four-match weekend at the HBU Beach Tournament featuring meetings against UL-Monroe, LSU, and Houston Baptist taking place Feb. 26-27.
The Islanders kick off with a season-opening 9 a.m. Friday (Feb. 26) morning match against UL-Monroe before facing nationally-ranked LSU later the same day at 2 p.m. A&M-Corpus Christi plays tournament host Houston Baptist to start Saturday (Feb. 27) action at 10 a.m. followed by a second meeting in as many days with UL-Monroe slated for 12:30 p.m.
"The players are happy to be back on the sand and excited to play UL-Monroe and No. 1 LSU in our first tournament of the season," said head coach
Gayle Stammer.
Notes
- The Islanders posted a 5-3 record during the abbreviated 2020 season, tallying all of their wins during a five-game win streak dating from March 1-7 against opponents Spring Hill College, Tulane, New Orleans, Nicholls State, and Southeastern Louisiana.
- Returners Brooke Adkisson and Giuliana Corrales sported the best pair record last season at 4-2, but Kylie Kvam and Taylor Horsfall also tallied four wins as they landed 4-4 overall.
- In addition to a strong returning class, the Islanders welcome Division I grad transfers Mary Dodge (Wisconsin), Micaela Mirabal (Grand Canyon), and Emily Ramirez (UTSA) to the roster. Â Â Â Â Â
- Coach Gayle Stammer enters her fifth season at the helm of the Islander program.
