Campos, Kipngeno Earn Third to Highlight Southland Championships

Hammond, La. – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country duo Valentina Campos and Dennis Kipngeno each sported an individual third-place finish to highlight Southland Cross Country Championships action as both teams placed seventh overall Sunday morning on the Southeastern Louisiana campus.

Campos scratched out a 20:48.50 run to take bronze in the 6k leg to open the day before Kipngeno replicated the effort on the men's side with his own 23:44.48 performance in the 8k to sweep third for the Islanders. The impressive efforts landed Campos and Kipngeno on their respective Southland all-conference first team lists while Kipngeno added a Freshman of the Year distinction to his growing resume.

Not to be outdone, Quin Johnson engineered a top-10 finish, taking ninth in the 77-member field with a 21:24.51 time. The showing earned her a spot on the All-Southland second team.
Southeastern Louisiana (35) utilized the home field advantage by securing its first men's title in program history, while Central Arkansas (86) topped the women's leaderboard for a second-straight year. The Islanders finished seventh overall on both sides, seeing the women collect 157 points and the men 199.
