Islanders Game Notes
CONROE, Texas – A change of destinations is on tap for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball program as it will now partake in the Scrap Yard Blizzard Challenge on Saturday and Sunday at the Scrap Yard Sports Complex.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi (0-0) was originally supposed to play in the North Texas Tournament this weekend but changed its plans after it was canceled.
Â
Saturday will mark the season opener for the Islanders, who didn't get to play last weekend at Texas A&M due to the tournament being canceled.
Â
A&M-Corpus Christi will be going for its first-ever win against Oklahoma State (2-0). It will be the fourth and fifth meetings all-time, and the first since 2012. OSU defeated Arkansas 12-11 and Louisiana Tech 8-0 last weekend.
Â
It will be the first-ever meeting between A&M-Corpus Christi and Tarleton State (0-0), which had its three-game series at Northwestern State canceled last weekend.
Â
The Islanders are 4-2 all-time against Wichita State (0-0). Though, the Shockers took the last meeting 14-4 last season.
Â
Head coach
Kristen Zaleski enters her second season at the helm. Her first season was cut short due to COVID-19. Zaleski arrived from Temple College where she compiled a 413-127 overall record in nine seasons. She led Temple to the NJCAA Division I national title in 2018.
