December 20, 2021

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi department of athletics will induct the 2009 men's tennis team and former men's basketball student-athlete John Jordan into the Hall of Honor. They will be distinguished at the 2022 Homecoming Honors Banquet on Friday, Feb. 18 in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom.

"I am thrilled to welcome the 2009 Islander men's tennis team and John Jordan as our 2022 Hall of Honor inductees," said Athletics Director Jon Palumbo. "John is one of the most accomplished players in the history of Islanders men's basketball, and the 2009 men's tennis team achieved a level of success that places them among the greatest Islander teams in any sport. The impact of these men on our program was profound, and this honor is well deserved!"

The 2009 men's tennis team ranked No. 35 in the nation in NCAA Division I, which is the highest ranking ever by any team in Southland Conference history and were No. 6 in the nation among mid-majors. The team won the 2009 SLC Tournament and was awarded the No. 3 seed at the 2009 NCAA Championships. They finished with a 36-4 score against SLC opponents and also recorded wins over Indiana, Nebraska, New Mexico, DePaul, Middle Tennessee and UL-Lafayette.

The team consisted of Laurent Montoisy, James Langford, Jose Zunino, Jaume Farras, Andrew Maingot, Dmitry Novikov, Alex Pavlov, Mike Pavlov, Jan Cingel and David Pace. They were coached by Steve Moore, Goncalo Figueiredo and Jason Holland.

Jordan played basketball for the Islanders from 2011-15. In the school record book, he ranks first all-time in assists (652), first in minutes played (4,340) and free throws made (559). Jordan finished his career as the only active player in Division I with more than 1,500 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists and is one of two players in Southland Conference history to ever accomplish that feat. He went on to a successful professional career, first in the NBA G League where he helped Raptors 905 win a championship in 2017 under Head Coach Jerry Stackhouse. Jordan then transitioned to overseas professional basketball and has had stints in Finland, Belgium, Germany and Serbia. He is currently playing for Ploiesti CSM in the Romanian National League where he is averaging 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists per game this season.

The 2022 Homecoming Honors Banquet is open to the public and tickets can be purchased at online at the Islander Alumni Store. Ticket prices begin at $40, with tables of eight priced at $400.
