TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Representing Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the NCAA Cross Country Championship, junior
Dennis Kipngeno registered a time of 30:14.3 in the 10K race Saturday morning at Apalachee Regional Park, hosted by Florida State.

Kipngeno's score was good for 110th-place out of 253 competitors. He was the highest finisher from the Southland Conference. Kipngeno made his move in the end as he was in 226th-place after 1170K and was in 183rd halfway through.

The Nakuru, Kenya native was the first A&M-Corpus Christi student-athlete to reach nationals in 10 years. He joins Shadrack Songok and Patrick Kimeli as the only Islanders in school history to compete in the race for the men.

Kipngeno's time was a big improvement from his 31:05.1 that he posted at NCAA South Central Regionals to qualify for nationals. He was a 2021 All-Conference First-Team selection after finishing in fourth-place at the SLC Championship.
