TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Becoming the first Texas A&M-Corpus Christi cross country student-athlete to reach the NCAA Championship in 10 years, junior
Dennis Kipngeno will race for a national title on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 10:10 a.m. (CT) at Apalachee Regional Park.
Â
The race will be nationally televised on ESPNU.
Â
Kipngeno is the first Islander to make it to the final stage since Patrick Kimeli in 2011. He's just the third male to ever compete along with All-American Shadrack Songok in 2006 and 2007.
Â
Kipngeno qualified after running a 10K time of 31:05.1 at NCAA South Central Regionals, hosted by Baylor. Missing out on qualifying by one spot was freshman
Kelvin Kimaiyo, the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year.
Â
Kipngeno was named to the 2021 All-Conference First-Team after clocking in at 24:41.33 in the 8K at the SLC Championship, which was good for fourth-place.
Â
The highest an A&M-Corpus Christi student-athlete has ever finished at the NCAA Finals is seventh-place by Songok in 2007 with a time of 29:50.1.
