CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Coming from Gothenburg, Sweden, Elsa Tornvall will be the latest addition to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf program after signing a national letter of intent.
Â
She will enroll in the fall of 2022 and will be studying toward a degree in either biomedical science or criminal justice. Tornvall maintains a 3.88 GPA in high school.
Â
"The reason I have decided to join the Islanders golf team is because they are a family. I will be leaving my home country and that is scary, but knowing that a second family is waiting for me on the other side of the Atlantic is calming. I am so excited to start this new chapter of my life, because I know the next four years at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi are going to be awesome," Tornvall said.
Â
Tornvall played nearly six years of golf at Hills Golf and Sports Club. She was named the women's Club Champion Under 18 in 2018.
Â
"I am very pleased to add Elsa Tornvall to our roster. She is a strong player both mentally and physically, and she has a very positive way of thinking. Distance off the tee and accuracy on longer approaches are definitely Elsa's strengths, and she really impressed me with her goal-setting, attention to detail, and work ethic. Elsa had a solid year in 2021, averaging 76 with a low of 69; her best finishes were 1st at Linkoping Junior Masters Invitational, 3rd at Battle of Gothenburg #5, 5th at Wilson Junior Masters Invitational and Teen Tour Future omg.5, and 6th at Teen Tour Future omg.3. Her progression in her competitive game has been steady over the past three years, and I look forward to seeing her development as an Islander and a collegiate golfer," said head coach
Joni Stephens.
