HOUSTON –
The second half of Southland Conference play begins Thursday for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer program when it travels to HBU for a 7 p.m. game at Sorrels Field.

The Islanders (4-6-2, 2-2-2 SLC) sit right in the middle of the pack with an even .500 record. They are tied with HBU (2-7-3, 2-2-2 SLC) for fourth-place.

"This will be a tricky game as HBU has started to hit some form," said head coach Craig Shaw. "The key for us is to make sure we start the game well and put them on the back foot."

It will be the second meeting this year between the Islanders and the Huskies. The first ended in a 1-1 tie in Corpus Christi in the SLC opener on Sept. 10. A&M-Corpus Christi trailed until the 71st minute when junior Samantha Palomino scored the equalizer.

Palomino leads the offense with four goals and two assists this year. She's one of five Islanders to score a goal including senior Reaghan Lang with three, sophomore Maggie Murray with two, freshman Megan Guy with two and sophomore Olivia Alvarez with one.

The Islanders have had a stable back line with their center backs – sophomore Emma Herrera and freshman Emma Crump – leading the team in minutes played with 1,082 and 996, respectively. Their wingbacks – sophomores Jayden Rea and Reese Cross – have started in all 12 games.

Also to start in all 12 games thus far are Palomino and junior Emma Gibbs, who has dished out a pair of assists on the year.

In net, sophomore Kennedy Stelling has seen the bulk of the duties with 72 saves in 10 starts. She has a pair of shutouts on her resume.

The Huskies are coming off a 2-1 overtime win over UIW. Their other SLC victory was a 7-0 thumping over Nicholls at home on Sept. 19.

A&M-Corpus Christi, which is playing its second of a six-game road swing, is going for its first-ever win over HBU. The last two meetings both ended in 1-1 ties.
