Islanders Complete NMSU Aggie Invitational

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After three rounds of nearly the same scores, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's golf program ended in 15th-place out of 20 Division I schools at the NMSU Aggie Invitational on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the NMSU Golf Course.
 
A&M-Corpus Christi carded a 308-309-308—925 overall score. The team moved up one spot on the leaderboard on the final day.
 
"It was a disappointing three days," said head coach Joni Stephens. "We struggled this week with inconsistent ball striking, and indecision in club selection because of the higher elevation and increased yardage. We just had difficulty putting two good nines together. We were trying too hard to make things happen, and we are still having too many doubles as a team in a round."

Sophomore Lucie Charbonnier posted a team-best score of 228 after three consecutive 76 rounds. She finished in 47th overall out of 104 student-athletes. Just a few strokes behind was junior Lucy Martinez with a 76-77-78—231.
 
The best round on the squad came from freshman Reagan Gray as she tallied a 75 in round three. She finished with a 233 total.

"Reagan had a better day today; her 75 round consisted of nothing bigger than a bogie and she had a few birdies coming in. Lucie had a good comeback after a rough start; she stayed patient throughout her round and was able to finish with a good score," Stephens said.
 
Rounding it out were senior Kellsey Sample and junior Kelli Ann Dugan. Sample recorded an 80-77-79—236, while Dugan etched a 77-79-81—237.

"We have a lot of work to do as we prepare for our final fall tournament," Stephens said.
 
It was the only three-day tournament of the regular season for the Islanders. They will close out the fall campaign on Oct. 18-19 at the Colorado State Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colorado.
