Track and Field Opens Indoor Season at Crimson & Gold Invitational

PITTSBURG, Kan. – Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's and women's track and field programs commence its 2021 spring indoor season at the Crimson & Gold Invitational on Saturday with events beginning at noon.

Keeping Track of the Islanders
  • The Islanders return to the track after last competing at the Southland Indoor Championships on March 2. During championship action, A&M-Corpus Christi broke four school records and landed 11 top-eight finishes. The women slotted eighth and the men tenth in the team standings.
  • Valentina Campos secured two championship medals, finishing third in the 3,000m with a personal-best 9:58.52 mark and taking runner-up honors in the 5,000m with another career-high time of 17:01.49.
  • Both squads set records in the 4x400 relay, as the women's team of Larissa Manciaz, Sierra Pruitt, Makalah Griffin, and Devon Polk clocked a 3:49.28 time for eighth while the men claimed fourth behind a 3:12.57 mark from Timor Barrett, Terrion Spivey, Kwesi Thomas-Henderson, and Dubem Nwachukwu.
  • A&M-Corpus Christi landed seven on All-Southland teams at the conclusion of the 2020 season, with Campos claiming second and third-team laurels while Barrett, Isaac Vargas, Allyson Girard, Ariel Bustamante, and Quin Johnson rounded out the Islanders' placers.
  • Head coach Brent Ericksen begins his fourth season at the helm for the Islanders.
