Cross country with strong performances in season opener

- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi cross country team opened the 2019 season at the UIW Opener on Friday evening in San Antonio, Texas.
- Individually the Islanders got a pair of runner-up finishes as Isaac Vargas finished second in the men's 6K at 18:22.2 and Valentina Campos ran a personal best in the women's 4K in 14:53.3.
- The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women finished second overall as a team and the men were fourth.
- The women's race had eight teams and 72 total participants. The men's race featured seven teams and 68 total competitors.
- Freshman Quin Johnson finished fourth overall in her collegiate debut for the Islander women in 15:24.0.
- Marek Spriestersbach was 12th in the men's race in 19:03.0
