CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Director of Athletics
Jon Palumbo has announced the hire of
Josiah Castro as Associate Athletics Director/Chief Revenue Officer. Castro will be responsible for the department's fundraising activities, including the Islander Athletic Fund and major gifts, the athletics corporate sponsorship program, and the ticket office. Castro comes to the Island after five years at California State University, Bakersfield (CSUB), most recently as Assistant Athletic Director of Development.
"I'm very excited to welcome
Josiah Castro to Corpus Christi and to our campus," Palumbo said. "He brings a high level of experience not only as a fundraiser, but also in the other revenue generation areas that he will oversee. His experiences in helping CSUB and New Mexico State elevate their athletics programs have him well prepared to make an immediate impact on our program."
In his role at CSUB, Castro had oversight of all athletics giving to the university including major gifts, annual fund, endowments, and capital projects. He played a significant role in securing the largest fundraising year (2017–18) in the past 10 years, raising over $2.7 million in athletics support.
"It is an honor to be named the next Associate Athletics Director at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi," said Castro. "I am excited for the opportunity to impact even more student-athlete lives by building support for Islanders Athletics. My family and I look forward to being a part of this fantastic community. Go Islanders!"
Prior to CSUB, Castro was the Coordinator of Membership Sales for the Aggie Athletic Fund at New Mexico State University. He also spent time with the Aggies as Sponsorship account manager, generating new sponsors for the 2013–14 sports season. Earlier in his time at NMSU, Castro served as Senior Ticket Sales Consultant after originally joining the Aggies as a Development Assistant for their football program.
Before arriving in Las Cruces, Castro worked in the private sector as a Research Manager for APCO Worldwide in Washington, DC. There he conducted global strategic opinion research for Fortune 100 companies and trade associations.
Castro graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Marketing from New Mexico State University. He received his Master of Professional Studies in Sports Industry Management — Strategic Marketing, Communications, and New Media from Georgetown University.
