FRISCO, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi had a pair of student-athletes named to the All-Southland Cross Country Academic teams in a
release from the conference office on Thursday.
Isaac Vargas earned first team All-Southland honors and teammate
Marek Spriestersbach earned second team accolades.
Vargas was the Islanders most consistent performer, earning first team All-Southland honors with his ninth place individual finish at the conference championship meet back on Nov. 1. At the meet, he ran a personal best 24:30.6 over the 8K course, registering his fourth top-10 finish of the season. The junior is an Electrical Engineering major and has maintained a 3.80 GPA.
Spriestersbach carries a 3.94 GPA in Mechanical Engineering. He began his season with a personal-best 6K finish of 19:03.0 at UIW to take 12th overall. He finished 22nd at the Southland Championships and also hit a personal record in his final race at the NCAA South Central Regional, finishing the 10K in 34:43.0. Spriestersbach also earned second team academic honors as a junior in 2018.
A&M-Corpus Christi will begin the indoor track & field season on Friday, Jan. 17, at the Texas A&M Ted Nelson Invitational in College Station, Texas.
