CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Director of Athletics
Jon Palumbo announced Thursday that he has hired Lizzie Gomez as Deputy Director of Athletics for Internal Operations/Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). Gomez will begin her appointment on Monday, Feb. 4, and will be responsible for day to day oversight of several athletic department operations, including budget and business operations, facilities and event operations, human resources management and strength and conditioning. She will also oversee the volleyball and beach volleyball programs. Gomez comes to the Island after five years at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), most recently as Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations/SWA.Â
"I'm thrilled to welcome Lizzie Gomez to Corpus Christi and to our campus," said Palumbo. "She brings a wealth of experience at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics. She will be a tremendous asset as we continue to build a championship culture throughout our program and enhance the student-athlete experience."
"I am very excited for this opportunity and to work alongside Jon and President Quintanilla and help foster their vision for Islander Athletics," Gomez said.
In her role at CSUN, Gomez had oversight of the Athletic Department's $15 million budget, Human Resources, the Athletics Business Office, Equipment and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and she served as the Deputy Title IX Coordinator for Athletics. In addition, she was the sport administrator for the women's tennis, women's volleyball, beach volleyball, softball and men's volleyball programs.
Prior to CSUN, Gomez was the Director of Compliance at the University of Oklahoma. There she had a multitude of duties in all areas of NCAA compliance that included specializations in admissions, eligibility, roster management, recruiting and financial aid.
Before arriving in Norman, Gomez worked in the University of Maryland's athletic department for five years and rose to Associate Director of Compliance. Her duties then included providing compliance rules education to approximately 700 student athletes and 27 sports annually, overseeing all NCAA initial and continuing eligibility requirements and roster management.
Gomez graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sports Management from Flagler College, where she played on the women's volleyball team and was named a NAIA All-American Scholar-Athlete. Gomez received her master's degree in Education, Adult and Higher Education from the University of Oklahoma.
