Senior Celebration Saturday

Corpus Christi, Texas - The Islanders competed in their final Southland Conference home game series of the 2018 season against Nicholls. After the Blue and Green held the lead 1-0 through four innings, the Colonels came out strong in the top of the fifth to score 10 to win 10-1 in five innings. 

SENIOR DAY
>> Destiney Diaz competed in her final home game at Chapman Field on Saturday
>> After transferring from Paris Junior College, Destiney tried out for the Islander softball team in August of 2017 
>> She earned herself a spot in the starting line up
>> Destiney was the Islanders starting second baseman until more than halfway through the season being switched over to short stop
>> With 49 starts under her belt and one Southland Conference series left, she has a batting average of .213

AT THE PLATE
>> Whitney Wendel went 1-for-2 from the plate hitting a double to left field for a RBI to score Avery Ratcliff
>> The Islanders were outhit 3-13 by the Colonels with 9 of their hits in the top of the fifth

IN THE CIRCLE
>> Junior, Ashley Smith started in the circle for the Blue and Green before Freshman, Alexis Tovar came in for relief
>> Only 4 of the 10 runs were earned
>> Combined, the pitchers gave up 2 walks with 2 strikouts

KEY INNINGS
-Bottom of the 2nd 
>> Avery Ratcliff reached first after being hit by the pitch
>> Whitney Wendel doubled down the left field line for a RBI to score Ratcliff

-Top of the Fifth
>> Miller tripled to left center scoring Major
>> Lara singled up the middle scoring Miller
>> Clement singled through the left side advancing Strother to second, Frederick to thrid, and Lara home to score
>> Bailey singled to right field advancing Clement to second, Strother to third, and Frederick home
>> Major singled advancing to second on the throwing error, Hamilton advanced to third, scoring Clement and Strother
>> Miller singled to center field scoring Major and Hamilton
>> Frederick singled to center field, advancing to second on an error, scoring Lara and Miller
>> The Colonels ended the inning with 10 runs, 9 hits, 2 errors, and 1 left on base
