CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Lee Malone and Quintin Payton have been hired as part of a restructuring of the Texas A&M Corpus Christi Department of Athletics external relations team. Malone has been named the Assistant Athletic Director for Special Events and Advancement and Payton will be the Islanders' Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions. Both will assume their duties this May.
"We are excited to restructure our external team to meet the needs of a program that is poised to become a mid-major breakthrough," said Deputy Athletic Director
Travis Whipple. "Lee has built great relationships in Corpus Christi and will immediately impact our special events and advancement efforts. Her experience and personal skills will strengthen our team."
Malone comes to the Island with seven-plus years of experience in intercollegiate athletics. She also spent over eight years as a marketing specialist for American Bank in Corpus Christi. This will be Malone's second stint at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, having served as the Assistant AD for External Affairs during the 2005-06 academic year. She has also worked at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) and the University of Texas at Arlington. She earned her bachelor's degree from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Malone was the Director of Promotions and Licensing at UNLV and served as an Assistant Sports Information Director and Marketing Intern at UT Arlington.
"We are excited to welcome Quintin back home as he will always be an Islander," Whipple said. "The first thing you will notice about him is his passion and excitement for what he does. Quintin is a great addition to our team and will bring new ideas that will enhance our game environment."
Payton was most recently the Director of Athletics Marketing at Jacksonville University in Jacksonville, Fla. He oversaw the marketing for 18 varsity sport programs and implemented new strategies that saw a 30 percent increase in home basketball attendance from the past season. The Texas A&M Corpus Christi graduate spent two years working at the University of West Florida in Pensacola, Fla. He was the Marketing and Sales Graduate Assistant and was elevated to athletics Marketing and Sales Coordinator in his final year for the Argonauts while completing his masters degree. As a Marketing Intern for the Islanders, Payton assisted in the fulfillment of in-game promotions, sponsorship elements, presentations and entertainment.
