Tough Battle in Series Closer

Islanders Fall Short Against the Lady Jacks 5-6

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- While returning from a doubleheader opener against SFA on Friday afternoon, Texas A&M Corpus Christi Softball finished off the weekend series against SFA with a tough loss against the Lady Jacks. The final score for the Blue and Green on Saturday's competition was 5-6.

STAYING ON THE OFFENSE
>>The Islanders started off today's competition with a bang, as Jr. IF Kaylon Dunn tallied an RBI with a single to right center field, bringing in Jr. OF Keagen Helson for her 14th run of the season. 
>>Fr. Kaylee Hoppens completed all 9 innings for the Islanders with a total of 99 pitches for today's competition against the Lady Jacks.
>>Fr. catcher Whitney Wendel smashes a homer to tally a season high of 4 RBI on the day and her first grand slam, while scoring Diaz, Johnson, Hoppens for the Blue and Green.

KEY INNINGS
Top of the 1st

>> K. Dunn singles to right center for an RBI, advancing to second on the throw, and brining in Helson to put the Islanders up 1-0.

Bottom of the 4th
>> Thompson singles to the pitcher for an RBI, advancing C. Ruffino to second, and scoring A. Landry to tie the game 1-1.

Top of the 9th
>> W. Wendel homers to left field, bringing in D.Diaz, K. Johnson, and K. Hoppens for a four run RBI to bring the Blue and Green ahead SFA 5-1.

Bottom of the 9th
>> C. Brown, reaching on a fielding error from 2B for an RBI to score K. Thompson and K. Thompson advances to second; SFA trails 5-2
