Evans and Arrow inducted into Hall of Honor

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Department of Athletics has selected former men's basketball coach Ronnie Arrow and softball student-athlete Katie Evans-Sanchez for induction into the department's Hall of Honor as part of the 2019 University Homecoming celebration. Evans-Sanchez and Coach Arrow will be honored at 2019 Homecoming Honors Banquet, taking place on Friday, Feb. 8, in the University Center, Anchor Ballroom.

"On behalf of Islander Athletics, we are thrilled to welcome Ronnie and Katie into our Hall of Honor," said Director of Athletics Jon Palumbo. "These outstanding individuals set the standard for excellence here on the Island and laid the foundation for their programs and future student-athletes."

The 2018 Homecoming Honors Banquet is open to the public and tickets are now available through islanderalumni.org/store. Ticket prices begin at $35, with tables of eight priced at $350. Awards presented that evening include the Distinguished Alumni Awards, Athletic Hall of Honor Inductions and College Achievement Distinctions.

The first head coach in Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's basketball history, Ronnie Arrow led the Islanders for eight seasons, going 134-91 overall. He had three seasons with 20 or more wins. During the school's first season in the Southland Conference in 2007-08, Arrow led the team to a 26-7 record and a Southland Conference West Division regular season title at 14-2. As the top seed in the Southland Tournament, the Islanders beat Southeastern Louisiana, McNeese and Northwestern State to earn the program's first trip to the NCAA Tournament. Chris Daniels, an Associate Press All-America selection, was named the conference tournament MVP after earning Southland Player of the Year honors during the regular season. Arrow was named the conference Coach of the Year as A&M-Corpus Christi led the Southland in scoring at 79.2 points per game, rebound margin at 6.3 per game and field goal percentage at 52.2 percent.
 
Katie Evans-Sanchez played four seasons for the Islanders from 2001-04. She was on the first Islander team to ever compete in the NCAA Championship Tournament, leading her team to back-to-back Big South Conference championships in 2003 and 2004. During her time on the Island, Evans-Sanchez was a part of 124 A&M-Corpus Christi victories. To this day, Evans-Sanchez holds nine career school records. Her 374 total career bases is 102 bases higher than the next closest spot on the list. She also holds the career record for hits with 242, extra base hits with 79, doubles with 57, triples with nine, multi-hit games with 66 and slugging percentage at .518. In all, she ranks in the career top-five in 17 different categories. Evans-Sanchez also holds the distinction as being the first Academic All-America selection in Islander history and the school's only two-time honoree, being named in 2003 and 2004.
