Story Headlines
- Despite an all-around strong statistical performance in the team's return to Corpus Christi, the Islanders' soccer program (5-4-3, 2-2-2 Southland) failed to reel in visiting Incarnate Word (2-8-1, 2-3-1 Southland), eventually falling to the Cardinals by a 1-0 margin.
- The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi offense compiled a notable second-half showing, as the group consistently put the UIW defense on its heels. Senior
Kaitlyn Joy and freshman
Dana Curtis led the way, combining for seven shots with five on goal as the Islanders worked unsuccessfully to knot the score late.
- Senior
Abbie Flax returned between the pipes for the third time this season, grabbing six saves with one goal allowed.
Key Islander Statistics
- In similar fashion to what has become the norm for the Islanders this season, head coach
Craig Shaw organized yet another game of suffocating offensive pressure. Statistically, this led to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi monopolizing control of nearly every notable category, outpacing Incarnate Word in shots (20-13), shots on goal (10-7) and corner kicks (6-4).
- Along with Joy and Curtis, who buoyed the squad's strong shooting performance, sophomores
Abby Deakin (three shots, two on goal) and
Kayla Gove (three shots, two on goal) also applied consistent pressure the Cardinals' back line.
- Three Islanders competed for the entirety of the 90-minute match, including Flax, sophomore midfielder
Addison Urbanus and freshman defender
Marina Davidson.
