NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi drops a 2-0 decision at Stephen F. Austin this Sunday off a pair of late Lumberjack goals. This is just the first time this year the Blue and Green has recorded back-to-back losses on the year, as the side sits just a single win away from its best season in program history.Â
With both sides taking a pair of shots in the opening seven minutes, the beginning moments of the Islanders' match with the Lumberjacks proved to be some of the most exciting. The Blue and Green controlled pace of play through the majority of the opening 25, steering three of the team's first four shots on frame. Team scoring-leader
Katie Lawrence had one of the biggest opportunities for the Islanders in those opening minutes, after an SFA foul set up the freshman forward with a free kick just outside of the 18. Lawrence took the dead ball direct, aiming her finish underneath a jumping wall of Jacks and toward the bottom left corner. SFA's starting keeper would make the diving stop however, as both sides would enter halftime without a tally.
Despite outshooting Corpus Christi 7-4 in the first, the Islanders would lead in the shots on goal category 3-1, with starting goalkeeper
Abbie Flax being called upon for just a single save. The Blue and Green's offense started to slow in the second however, as an increase in Jacks attacks provided fewer offensive chances for the visiting side. Redshirt-senior
Brooke Erdmann had the first legitimate shot at starting the day's scoring. On a lead ball from midfielder Abby Deakin, Erdmann cut back on her mark and let loose a ball from 30 yards out, that flew just inches wide of the upper-right 90.
With the Islanders unable to capitalize on their scoring chance, the hosting Lumberjacks would take advantage, notching goals in the 71st and 82nd minutes. The Jacks' goals would be too much for the Blue and Green to overcome so late in the match, and Corpus Christi would be forced to take home an 0-2 record on the weekend.

- Freshman Addison Urbanus tallied her second SOG of the year against the Jacks, while making her third consecutive start
- This is the first time the Islanders have lost back-to-back this season, as they sit just a single win from their best season in program history
- Of the 16 shots SFA took, Corpus Christi was able to limit them to just six on net for the afternoon
- After having so much success with set pieces this year, the Islanders were fouled just eight times on Sunday and did not earn a single corner kick
- Ashley Hamilton recorded a season-high with 69 minutes played, making her first start since August 25th
COMING UP NEXTÂ
The Islanders will hope that some home-cooking will help them get back to their winning ways, as the Blue and Green is slated to host a pair of home matchups with Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls the coming week. Corpus Christi is an undefeated 1-0-1 this season when playing inside Dugan, and have surrendered just a single goal when playing host in 2017.
