CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's women's cross country team claimed a spot in the USTFCCCA's latest South Central Regional rankings this week after finishing second in the Norry Hersey Rice Invitational in Houston. The Islanders received their first regional ranking of the year at 14th overall, the highest they've received in the previous two years.
Allyson Girard posted the top finish for Corpus Christi in Houston this past weekend, taking third among collegiate runners in her first meet since coming to the Island. Girard's 13:59.01 gave her one of the Islanders' two top-10 finishes at the invite, with freshman
Sydney Cole taking seventh among attached athletes. The Blue and Green finished 1-1 in the Friday scheduled duals, trailing only host Rice University for the top spot.
The Islanders are one of five teams to take a spot in the South Central Regional rankings this week and join a group of 12 other Texas institutions. The side's next scheduled meet is set to take place at home, as the Islander Splash gets ready for its 15th consecutive year of competition next Friday, September 23rd at 7:20 AM.
