ABILENE, Texas – Peyton Hedrick went 2-for-3 with three RBI, as Abilene Christian edged the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team 6-0 to complete the sweep in the series finale on Saturday afternoon.

The Islanders (6-23, 1-8) were outhit 6-4 by the Wildcats (21-14, 11-1), while leaving five runners stranded on base.

Islanders starting pitcher
Liz Carter (5-13) opened the day with four strikeouts through the first two innings.

Abilene Christian broke the tie in the third inning with an Ali Spivey RBI groundout. Taylor Brown added a run two batters later with a single, before Hedrick gave the hosts a 3-0 with an RBI double during the next at-bat.

Hedrick put the Wildcats up 6-0 with a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth.

Offensively, the Blue and Green could not find an answer to the pitching of Sidney Holman (13-3). The Wildcats' hurler gave up one hit through five innings of work with five strikeouts. Hannah Null came on for the final two frames scattering three hits.

The Blue and Green put a pair of runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings.
Lexi Shaw singled to left field after
Mariah Clay walked to lead off the sixth.
Lacey Boyd and
Alexis Richardson notched back-to-back two-out singles an inning later.
Kandace Johnson picked up the first hit of the afternoon in the second with a single up the middle.

Carter left the game in the fifth after striking out six and surrendering six runs, five earned. Johnson finished the final 1 2/3 innings with three punchouts.

The Islanders will return to Chapman Field for a three-game series against McNeese, starting on Friday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
