CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field program completed the season sweep over UT-Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, as the Islanders defeated the Vaqueros handily to pick up four points in the South Texas Showdown, presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.
MEN – 113-59
The Blue and Green cruised to victory in 13 events.
In the field events,
Ben Clark (shot put),
Skyler Coffman (triple jump),
Logan Jorgensen (pole vault),
Logan Robinson (javelin),
Zhafear Ray (high jump) and
Aaron Rosales (hammer throw) notched victories.
Tristan McNeal won two events with his performances in the 800-meter run and with the 4x400-meter relay team.
Terrion Spivey (400m),
Brandon Walls (100m),
Dominic Baptiste (400h) and
Javier Reyes (200m), as well as the 4x100 meter relay team, picked up wins for the men in the running program.
WOMEN – 123-57
The women's team for the Islanders bested the men by winning 14 events.
Sashane Hanson won for the third straight week in the high jump, while
Chloe Young took the win in the javelin and 110-meter hurdles.

Hannah McWilliams (pole vault),
Lauren Brown (triple jump) and
Diamond Thomas (discus and hammer) added wins in the field events.
The 4x100 meter relay team,
Morgan McCutchen (1500),
Faith Williams (400 m),
Ebony Collins (100m),
Savanna Steakley (400h) and
Mikayla Roell (200m) earned first-place points on the track.
SHOWDOWN SWEEP
Though they have already clinched the 2016-17 title, the sweep for the track & field program gives the Islanders a commanding 33-19 lead in the series.
UP TO HOUSTON
Corpus Christi will be back in action next Saturday at the Cougar Spring Break Invitational.
