Islanders 11th to Open Pat Bradley Invitational

Amos and Bynum lead way on day one

October 22, 2017

SARASOTA, Fla. – Alex Amos and Autumn Bynum each carded 4-over rounds of 76 to open the 40th annual Pat Bradley Invitational as the Islanders stand 11th overall at 307 after Sunday's first round.

After a double-bogey on her second hole of the day, Amos responded with three birdies and a par over the next four. The newest Islander would add a pair of birdies on the back nine, but rode a roller coaster with five bogeys and a pair of doubles to finish 4-over and tied for the team lead.

Bynum's 76 featured an even-keeled round with 14 pars. The sophomore bogeyed two holes on both the front and back nine Sunday to finish along side Amos at 4-over.

Just a stroke behind Amos and Bynum, Dani Bergmann carded a 5-over 77 to also factor into the Islanders' team score. Bergmann overcame a 4-over start through five holes to settle in over the remainder of the round. The veteran birdied at 17, her eighth hole of the day, and produced six-straight pars to finish the round.

Brooklyn Sutton finished a stroke off Bergmann at 6-over. Sutton started strong with seven consecutive pars and stood 1-over through the front nine. On the back nine, Sutton shrugged off a triple and double-bogey with a birdie on her final hole to finish at 78 for the day.

Olivia Lowe rounded out the Islanders effort at 12-over in the opening round.

At 307, the Islanders sit 19 shots over par through the first round. In 11th, the Blue and Green is just six strokes back of sixth place and 10 strokes out of third. Boston College leads the Pat Bradley Invitational at 6-over 294 after the first round.

Play is slated to continue tomorrow in an augmented schedule. With weather expected to move into the area on Tuesday, the tournament will attempt to play 36 holes on Monday to close the event.
