SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's soccer team jumped out to an early lead on Friday night at UTSA with a
Chayse Bauer goal in the first minute, but three goals by the Road Runners towards the end of the first half allowed the hosts to pull away to a 6-1 win.

Bauer's strike, her first career goal, was the best possible start for the Islanders (0-5-0). Just 42 seconds into the match, the Dallas native connected on a ball in the six-yard box with assists to
Kaitlyn Joy and
Shayla Spearman.

UTSA (3-1-0) turned the tables in the ensuing minutes. Five corner kicks and four shots threatened the Islanders goal, but netminder
Jordan Wainwright turned aside a pair of attempts. The Road Runners finally converted on a trio of chances to take a 3-1 lead into the halftime break, before adding three more goals on the other side of the break.

A&M-Corpus Christi finished the match with three shots, two on goal, while UTSA managed 16 shots on goal from 30 attempts.

UPCOMING MATCHES
The Islanders open up their home schedule next Friday at 7 P.M. against Houston. A&M-Corpus Christi will host the Kickoff Tailgate in conjunction with Waves of Welcome. On Sunday, the Blue and Green will face UTRGV in the return leg of the South Texas Showdown presented by NavyArmy Community Credit Union.
