"Hannah earning this honor is really a tribute to determination," Director of Track & Field Shawn Flanagan said. "She's a comeback kid. After transferring from Texas State and taking some time off, she's been training extremely hard and has returned to superior form."
McWilliams placed third in the pole vault at this past weekend's Southland Outdoor Championships held on the Islanders' home track, earning Third Team All-Conference honors.
The Portland, Texas native broke the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi record in the pole vault multiple times in 2016, ultimately recording a height of 3.80 meters (12-05.50) at the Michael Johnson Invitational. McWilliams then matched that to take third at the league championship meet.
"Her tenacity, determination and leadership were welcomed with open arms by the coaching staff and her teammates," Flanagan said. "We're really proud to have such a ferocious competitor on our team and she is a very worthy recipient of this honor."
Philipp Baar and Sashane Hanson joined McWilliams on the All-Southland Team. Baar earned a first team spot after winning the 3,000 meter steeplechase and picked up a third team nod with a third place performance in the 5,000 meters. Hanson was named to the first team for winning the high jump in her first season with the Islanders.
