Box Score CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Sam Houston State pitcher Taylor Atkinson threw a one-hit shutout against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team, as the Bearkats defeated the Islanders 8-0 in a run-ruled game that lasted six innings.

The Bearkats' (14-23, 6-9) offense rolled early with four runs in the first 1 2/3 innings, which spelled the end of the day for Islanders (13-23, 3-12) starting pitcher Colleen Bentke (4-7, 4.12 ERA). The College Station native scattered three hits and allowed a pair of earned runs with three walks and two strikeouts
Stephanie Flores (1-6, 2.55 ERA) came on in relief for the freshman. The senior limited the Bearkats to five hits with a single earned run against, while matching Bentke in punchouts and walks.
Errors plagued the Islanders throughout the game, as the Blue and Green set a new season high with four defensive miscues on Saturday. Out of Sam Houston State's eight runs, three were earned against the Islanders hurlers.
A trio of Bearkats produced multi-hit performances, led by third baseman Breanna Homer's 2-for-4 with three RBI outing. In the circle, Atkinson relied upon her defense to power her to the win, as the righty needed only 59 pitches for the game without registering a strikeout or walk.
Islanders centerfielder Mackinzee Griebel broke up Atkinson's no-hitter in the sixth with an infield single.
ON DECK
The Islanders begin the final push to the finish of the regular season next weekend with a three-game set on the road against Lamar. The series will mark the start of a seven-game road swing for the Blue and Green.
