SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi track & field teams opened up competition at the Roadrunners Invitational on Friday, competing in the hammer throw and the shot put.

Kaelin Simmons led the women's team with a second place finish in the hammer. Her mark of 47.94 meters set a new school record for the Islanders. Teammate Diamond Thomas took ninth in the event with a personal best of 43.41 meters.
Thomas also placed third in the shot put with a mark of 12.97 meters, while Adrienne Nickleson took fifth, recording a distance of 12.79 meters.
On the men's side it was Ben Clark leading the way with a third place finish in the shot put. His mark of 15.48 meters was a new personal best for the sophomore. Three other Islanders competed in the event, including Logan Robinson, who placed seventh with a distance of 13.26 meters.
Aaron Rosales was the lone Islander in the men's hammer throw. He placed fifth in the event with a mark of 41.72 meters, over three meters better than his previous best.
The Islanders continue at the Roadrunners Invitational on Saturday.
