MCALLEN, Texas – After an opening round score of 42-over par at the UTRGV Invitational, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team shaved 22 strokes off its score in the second round to finish at 62-over (326-304—630). The Islanders will begin day three in fifth place after the fifth-lowest score of the year for the Blue and Green.

Per usual, Vanessa Johnson led the Islanders with a 3-over 74 to sit at 10-over (78-74—152) for the tournament. The Corpus Christi native is vying for her third top-10 finish of the season after capping day two in a tie for fifth.
Ana Paredes had the hot hand for A&M-Corpus Christi in round two. The junior bested her round one score by 10 strokes and matched her season low to finish her 36th hole at 18-over (85-75—160) in a tie for 22nd.
A&M-Corpus Christi holds a firm grasp of 24th place at 19-over (161), as a trio of Islanders carded scores to meet together on the leaderboard. Rookie Michelle Grilliette (84-77) tallied her lowest scoring round of her career at 6-over.
Julia Dereniwsky (83-78) went under 80 for the first time in six rounds with a 7-over 78 to round out the scoring for the Blue and Green. Dani Bergmann (81-80) shot 9-over in round two.
Lamar (310-297—607), Wichita State (317-294—611) and Houston Baptist (315-307—622) continue to occupy the top-three spots on the leaderboard. Sam Houston State (332-293—625) nudged the Islanders out of fourth place with the tournament low round of 9-over.
Nichole Budnik (80-68—148) sparked the low round for the Bearkats wither her own 3-under round, the only score under par for the tournament.
The Islanders will finish the UTRGV Invitational in grouping with the Bearkats and the host Vaqueros.
