MCALLEN, Texas – In the opening round of the UTRGV Invitational, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team battled windy conditions to shoot a 42-over, 326. Senior Vanessa Johnson (78), playing at the two-spot, ended day one in a tie for fourth at 7-over, two shots back of the lead.

Freshman Dani Bergmann, fresh off her first career top-10 finish at the Islanders Classic two weeks ago, carded a 10-over, 81, to start the second round in a tie for 15th. Tied for 27th place, Julia Dereniwsky sits two shots behind the German international after 18 holes of play.
In her second career tournament and first in the lineup for the Islanders, rookie Michelle Grilliette will start the day two tied for 33rd after a score of 13-over, 84, to round out the scoring for the Blue and Green. Ana Paredes ended the day one shot back of the freshman.
A&M-Corpus Christi trail leaders Lamar by 16 shots. Houston Baptist and Wichita State fill the gaps between the Islanders and their Southland Conference foes. Lamar's Taylor Stockton and Kaity Cummings of Houston Baptist sit atop the leaderboard after matching rounds of 76 to start the tournament.
The Islanders will tee off at 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning grouped with Stephen F. Austin and the host Vaqueros on holes six through nine.
