THIBODAUX, La. – The undefeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's tennis team continued to shine on Thursday, as the Islanders captured their third straight shutout in a 6-0 road victory against Nicholls in Thibodaux.

With the threat of inclement weather in Louisiana, the two teams decided to not play doubles competition and begin the day with all six singles matches.

As they did against Lamar at home and then Stephen F. Austin on the road Tuesday, the Islanders held the Colonels without a point to secure their 11th shutout of the 2016 spring season.

"This was another tough battle on the road," Director of Tennis Steve Moore said. "I thought our ladies showed good discipline and did a good job of controlling the things that they can control with all of the weather issues and time changes."

The Islanders are now 17-0 overall on the season, continuing their best start in program history, and are 8-0 in Southland Conference play.

On Thursday it was Kerry Galhos getting the Islanders out to an early lead with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the number six position.  Judit Vives then won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, at number three to make it 2-0 in favor of the Blue and Green.

After winning set one 6-1, the Colonels picked up their first set, as Clemence Krug won set two over Maider Martin at number five by a score of 6-3.  Martin fought back to win the third and final set 6-1 and make it 3-0 overall.

"They came out and fought today, and they had to fight because this Nicholls team came to battle today at home," Moore said. "These ladies are really pushing each other hard and really bringing out the best in each other. The character and leadership on this team is tremendous."

Celia Rodriguez clinched the victory for the Islanders.  The senior, who holds the all-time record for career singles victories at A&M-Corpus Christi, added another with a 7-5, 6-4 win at number four.

Jelena Dzinic and Hortense Boscher added a couple of wins for the Islanders to end the day.  Dzinic won 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2) at number two before Boscher came away with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 victory at number one to give A&M-Corpus Christi the 6-0 shutout.

"To go on the road against two tough teams and fight this hard says a lot about the heart of this team," Moore concluded.

A&M-Corpus Christi will now return home and host Abilene Christian on Monday. The Islanders and the Wildcats are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center.
