Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The hitting struggles continued for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi softball team on Saturday afternoon, as the Islanders managed five hits across a pair of games against Nicholls at Chapman Field. The Colonels completed the sweep of the Blue and Green following a pair of shutout victories, 4-0 and 1-0.

"I thought our pitchers did their jobs this weekend," head coach Stephanie Hughes said, as the Islanders (11-19, 1-8) fell to a 10-game losing skid. "We're in a team-wide slump right now, and we need to keep swinging to get out of it. That's the only way you can get yourself out of a slump like that is by swinging the bat."

GAME 1, Loss, 4-0

Hannah Haydel threw six scoreless innings for the Colonels (19-12, 6-2) for the second consecutive game, limiting the Blue and Green to one hit and fanning three.

Dani Tefft and Jessica Mendez bookended the game with singles. A&M-Corpus Christi received six free passes, but could not bring a runner home. Stephanie Flores (0-5, 3.13 ERA) tossed a complete game, surrendering three earned runs on five hits, while striking out four.

Nicholls opened the game with a run in the first inning, before tacking on insurance runs in the third and fourth. The Islanders aided the Colonels baserunners with three defensive errors.

GAME 2, Loss, 1-0

Colleen Bentke (3-6, 4.01 ERA) earned the start in the second game. The freshman out of College Station threw her fifth complete game of the season. The southpaw was not deserving of the loss, as she scattered four hits and struck out three.

Savannah Sandoval interrupted a no-hitter for the third time this season with her base hit in the sixth inning.

A&M-Corpus Christi attempted to put together a rally in the seventh, when Jessica Mendez recorded her third hit of the weekend to put a runner aboard. Aspen Auger broke a nine-game hitless streak with an infield single, but the Islanders stranded both runners to end the game.

Megan Landry went the distance for the Colonels to throw seven strikeouts in the shutout. Nicholls committed an error in the loss.

CUTTING DOWN THE FREEBIES

Stephanie Flores, Colleen Bentke and Liz Carter provided a trio of improved performances this weekend. Coming into the series, the Islanders had walked 38 batters in the previous eight games. Against the Colonels, A&M-Corpus Christi limited the free passes to just five.

ON DECK

The Islanders head out on the road for a series against Stephen F. Austin next week. A&M Corpus Christi will be on the road for 10 of its next 13 games.
