FORT WORTH, Texas – Freshman Dani Bergmann earned the first medalist honors of the year for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi golf team on Wednesday at the Cardinal Classic in Fort Worth. The Islanders took fifth place at 311 after the one-day tournament at the Golf Club at Champions Circle.

"I'm extremely proud of Dani's performance today," head coach Carol Blackmar said. "It's a great confidence booster going into the major part of our schedule. I believe that this win is the first of quite a few to come for her. She will do some amazing things for our team."
The German international qualified for a playoff after shooting a 1-over, 73. On the first hole of extra golf, Bergmann's approach shot left her with a two-putt opportunity to win the tournament. After a good effort on a birdie putt, the freshman tapped in to take her first career title as an Islander.
Further down the leaderboard, Ana Paredes tied for 15th with her 8-over, 80. Vanessa Johnson added another scoring round at 9-over (81). The Corpus Christi native finished in a tie for 18th.
Julia Dereniwsky and Michelle Grilliette finished in the same place on the leaderboard for the second consecutive tournament. The sophomore and freshman carded a 12-over, 84, for the tournament. Anna Millet-Esteve took 33rd at 15-over par.
Bradley earned team honors with a score of 311, three shots ahead of Southern Illinois at 26-over.

The Islanders will travel to Hoover, Ala., for the Samford Women's Intercollegiate next week.
