CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – With three games remaining in the regular season, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi women's basketball team makes its final push for the Southland Conference Tournament, starting on Saturday with a trip to Huntsville to face Sam Houston State at 4:35 p.m.
Video of the game against the Bearkats will be streamed on ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app. For the Islanders audio stream, fans can tune into the Islanders Digital Network to hear Steven King on the call at 4:15 p.m. with the Navy Army Community Credit Union Pregame Show.
Last Time Out
• The Islanders honored their four senior members in a pregame ceremony, before the Blue and Green topped Incarnate Word 69-55.
• Gee Lawler, Shay Weaver and Shola Adebayo combined for 37 points, while Jennifer Ramirez added four assists and two steals to cap a perfect senior day.
• Weaver tallied a game-high 16 points to lead the team in scoring for the fifth time this season.
• The Islanders scored a season-high 31 points off 22 Cardinal turnovers, while outrebounding the visitors by a 27-25 margin.
Noting the Islanders
• With a pair of 3-pointers against Incarnate Word, Brittany Mbamalu is just nine long balls away from breaking her personal school record of 81 in a season.
• A&M-Corpus Christi improved to 3-0 on the year when connecting on at least 50-percent of the shots, after shooting at a 53.2-percent clip against UIW.
• With one week to play in the regular season, the Blue and Green are fighting for a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament.
The Series
• The Islanders face a return leg to their longest rival in program history. Saturday will be the 24th meeting between the two schools.
• A&M-Corpus Christi extended its series lead to 15-8 over the Bearkats with an 81-71 victory at the American Bank Center on Feb. 6, behind 21 points from senior Shay Weaver.
• Despite a seven-game lead in the series, the Islanders have dropped four of the last five in Huntsville.
Bearkats at a Glance
• Sam Houston State has dropped nine of its last 11 games, including the previous two contests.
• Shernise Robertson continues to pace the Bearkats with 18 points per game this season.
• Angela Beadles follows close behind Robertson, averaging nearly a double-double with 15 points and 9.9 rebounds per game.
