Islanders Tennis Update: Women Climb Into National Rankings

The Islanders women's tennis team has climbed back into the ITA NCAA Division I national rankings for the first time since 2013. The Islanders were ranked 75th in the new poll released Tuesday.

I could not be more proud of this high character, hard working women's tennis team. In 22 years I've had some incredibly high character athletes, but this team's character is as good as a coach could ask for. Every girl works hard. Every girl is disciplined and buys in. We have a lot of work to do, but to see our name in the NCAA Division I national rankings really validates these girls' hard work.

The women sit at 6-0 this season and were ranked 75th in the most recent poll, announced on Tuesday by the ITA.  With the men's team climbing as high as 61st in the National Rankings earlier this season, it marks the second time in the last four years that the men's and women's squads appeared in the published national rankings in the same season.

It makes me very proud to see our University's name and our city's name in the National published Division I Rankings. To have both teams in the national ranking in the same year is something we can be proud of. I'm a blue collar guy and blue collar coach and I always root for the little guy and the underdog, so to see our school in the National Division I Rankings for both men and women makes me really proud for this school and this city.

As always, thanks for your continued support of Islanders Tennis!
