CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas –  The Texas A&M-Corpus Christi men's cross country team placed fourth out of 13 teams, while the women took fifth out of 13 at the Southland Conference Championships Friday morning in Nacogdoches.

Cesar Gonzalez led the Islander men with an 11
th place performance. He finished the eight kilometer course at Pecan Acres Park in a time of 24:48.8.

Jan Anstett and
Jordan Wright were the next to cross the line for the Blue and Green. Anstett was 21
st in 25:05.9, while Wright took 26
th with a time of 25:16.2.Â
Vinnie Van Puyvelde and
Fabian Lutz rounded out the scoring for the Islanders, finishing 33
rd and 34
th, respectively.

Lamar won the title for the fourth year in a row and 15
th overall, placing four runners in the Top 10 and all five scoring Cardinals in the Top 20 overall. Lamar's 43 points topped Stephen F. Austin's 62, McNeese's 68 and the Islanders' 125.

The Islander women were led by
Liz Romo, who took 13
th in a time of 22:20.8 on the six kilometer course.Â
Morgan McCutchen was close behind in 15
th, crossing the line in 22:26.0.

Cynthia Quiroga was the next to finish for the Blue and Green, placing 18
th in a time of 22:32.2.Â
Rebekah Hardee and
Carissa Piñón rounded out the scoring for the Islanders, finishing in 35
th and 38
th place, respectively.

Stephen F. Austin won the women's title for the first time since 2012 with a total of 48 points. The Ladyjacks put all five scoring runners in the top 12 to top Sam Houston State (106), Lamar (110), Incarnate Word (114) and the Islanders (117). A&M-Corpus Christi was just 11 points out of second place.

Once the Islanders return to Corpus Christi the team will begin preparation for the NCAA South Central Regional meet, to be held in Fayetteville, Ark. on Nov. 11.
